LINCOLN – Governor Dave Heineman appointed Carla Giger of Chadron; Heath Christiansen of Verdon, and Lucas Virgil of Weston as student representatives on the Nebraska State Colleges System Board of Trustees. The students will serve on the board during the 2005-06 academic year.
A Chadron State senior in the fall, Giger is a justice and legal studies major with a minor in political sciences. She has been the political science club secretary and a member of the legal studies club.
Giger has also been a supplemental instructor and peer tutor, and residence hall representative on CSC Student Council. She is currently an administrative assistant for the county attorney.
Christiansen is a community management information systems and marketing major at Peru State. He has been actively involved in PSC Student Senate as a senator-at-large, secretary of the technology committee, and chair of the executive committee.
He has also been treasurer of Phi Beta Lambda, member of the Nebraska Delta Chapter of Alpha Chi, and a residence life mentor. He was also a mentor for the youth entrepreneur program. He will be a senior this fall.
Virgil is majoring in political science with minors in history and pre-law. He has been a resident assistant in Neihardt Hall and member of the hall council, student activities board, and Phi Beta Lambda.
A junior at Wayne State this fall, Virgil helped found the group, Democracy Matters, on the Wayne campus. The group later changed the name to Student Liberties Action Movement (SLAM) and Virgil served as secretary.
The Nebraska State College System serves close to 8,000 students from Nebraska and surrounding states through three geographically diverse institutions: Chadron, Peru and Wayne State Colleges. Combined, the three colleges offer more than 200 degree, certificate, and pre-professional programs that are accessible on the three campuses, via the Internet, and in several satellite locations throughout the state.
