Peterson and Bieganski reappointed to the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees

Lincoln, Neb: The Nebraska Legislature confirmed the reappointment of Carter “Cap” Peterson of Wayne and Gary Bieganski of Chadron to the Nebraska State College System (NSCS) Board of Trustees. The six-year term will run through January 1, 2023.

The NSCS Board of Trustees has seven members, six of whom are appointed by the governor to six-year terms with legislative approval. Trustees are responsible for the governance and oversight of Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges. The seventh member is the commissioner of education, who serves as an ex-officio member of the board. The governor also annually appoints a non-voting student trustee from each college.

“Cap and Gary are very active and influential members of the Board of Trustees. Through their tenure, they have demonstrated unshakable dedication to Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State,” said NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter. “I am grateful for their service, and I am eager to see the enthusiastic leadership and ideas they will carry into their next term.”

Peterson began his appointment to the Board of Trustees in January of 2005. He is the owner of Northeast NE Insurance Agency, Inc. in Wayne. He is a graduate of Wayne State and has served as a trustee and member of the executive board for the Wayne State College Foundation. Peterson currently serves on the Student Affairs, Marketing, and Enrollment Committee and previously served as Chair of the NSCS Board of Trustees.

“It is an honor to be a part of the Nebraska State College System, where the institutions place the success of their students at the forefront of everything they do. I look forward to helping Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State continue to provide accessible and engaging educational opportunities to our students, community, and state” said Peterson.

Bieganski has served on the Board of Trustees since May 2006. He is a graduate of Chadron State College. Bieganski works as an Interim Chief Executive Officer for Critical Access Hospitals across Nebraska and Iowa.  He previously served as the Chair of the Academic and Personnel Committee and is now the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Bieganski said, “I am eager to serve another term on the Board of Trustees. The Nebraska State College System provides incredible value to our state by offering leading education at an affordable price. I am committed to helping our colleges continue to provide an education that will contribute to student success long after they step off campus.”

"I am a first-generation student, and it was a really hard decision for me to attend college or not. Then, I found Peru State College. With the scholarships and affordable living expenses here, Peru made the decision a lot less difficult."
