NSCS Board Selects Turman as the Chancellor-Designate

LINCOLN – The Nebraska State College System (NSCS) Board of Trustees unanimously authorized the Chancellor Search Committee to enter into negotiations and the Chair to enter into an employment agreement with Paul D. Turman, Ph,D.

“The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees is excited to have Dr. Turman as our Chancellor-Designee. We are confident that he will lead the State Colleges to a bright future and keep our mission to provide a high quality, affordable education to our students as a priority,” said Gary Bieganski, Chair of the NSCS Board of Trustees.

Bieganski also stated that he and the Board appreciate the great work that the Chancellor Search Committee, the Advisory Committee, and Academic Search did to have such excellent finalists to choose from for our next chancellor. 

About the Chancellor-Designate – Paul D. Turman, Ph.D.

Turman is the System Vice President for Academic Affairs for the South Dakota Board of Regents. He provides leadership for the academic and research functions of the South Dakota Regental system by managing system initiatives targeted at improving student preparation, progression, and completion through efforts to improve time to degree, increase affordability, and foster collaborate programs. Dr. Turman leads six areas in the Regental system including Research and Economic Development, Institutional Research, State Scholarship Programs, New Program Approval, the Regental Library Consortium, and Instructional Technology.

As System Vice President for Research & Economic Development, Dr. Turman provided his leadership to advance the grant, research, and scholarly goals in the Regental system by working with state government leadership, including the Governor, Executive Branch Agencies, and legislators, in making university research efforts effective for South Dakota.

Turman has been part of the South Dakota Board of Regents since 2006. He began as the Director of Academic Assessment; then became the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2008; became the System Vice President for Research & Economic Development in 2012; and started his current role as System Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2014.

Turman received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in Interpersonal Communication; his M.A. from South Dakota State University in Communication; and his B.S. from South Dakota State University in General Studies/Art Minor.

About the NSCS Chancellor Position
The Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive Officer of NSCS and the Chief Administrative Officer for the Board and the System Office and reports directly to the Board. The Chancellor is responsible for policy implementation and System administration by providing vision, leadership, planning, advocacy, coordination and management for the System with a commitment to quality management.  The Chancellor directly oversees the presidents of the Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State Colleges and the NSCS vice chancellors.
