Student Trustees Appointed

LINCOLN – Governor Jim Pillen has appointed Olivia McAsey of Peru State; Cooper Reichman of Chadron State; and Emma Wilkinson of Wayne State to serve as student trustees on the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges. They will serve a one-year term (2023-2024 academic year) and represent State College students.

“The Trustees value the insight and student perspective these young leaders bring to the Board, and it is my honor as Chair of the Board of Trustees to welcome the new Student Trustees,” said John Chaney, Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Cooper Reichman – Chadron State College Student TrusteeCooper Reichman

Reichman, a senior at Chadron State College, is majoring in rangeland wildlife management and minoring in community and adventure recreation. He has served as a resident advisor, a student senator, Rotaract Club president, and CAB representative.  When addressing his role as a Student Trustee in his application, Cooper stated, “I see no greater honor as a student than to serve in the role of student trustee and promote the advancement of the Chadron State College and its students.”

Cooper is the son of Jennifer Reichman of Chappell, Nebraska.

Olivia McAsey – Peru State College Student TrusteeOlivia McAsey

McAsey a sophomore at Peru State College, is majoring in business – management and leadership. Olivia is the president of the Residence Hall Association, a college ambassador, and works in the admissions office as well a member of the women’s golf team.  When discussing her appointment, Olivia stated, “As an involved student, the role of student trustee will allow me to be the voice of students, positively impact their lives, and promote the betterment of the Peru State and all of the State Colleges.”

Olivia is the daughter of Jackie McAsey of Holton, Kansas.

Emma Wilkinson – Wayne State College Student TrusteeEmma Wilkinson

Wilkinson, a sophomore at Wayne State College, is a criminal justice and political science major and minoring in English.  Emma serves on the student senate and is a Wayne State Navigator. She is a Rural Law Opportunities Program Scholar and is active in several organizations including, Wild For Life (President), Theta Phi Alpha, Greek Council, Political Science Club (Treasurer). Wilkinson stated in her application that the “student trustee is uniquely positioned to serve as a conduit between the Board and the students they serve. I will cherish the opportunity to provide the Wayne State College student perspective.”  

Emma is the daughter of Michael and Teresa Wilkinson of Battle Creek, Nebraska.

"I am a first-generation student, and it was a really hard decision for me to attend college or not. Then, I found Peru State College. With the scholarships and affordable living expenses here, Peru made the decision a lot less difficult."
