The Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges announced today that they will consider removing the “interim” designation from Dr. Jodi Kupper’s title and formally appoint her as president of Chadron State College at a special meeting on October 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM CT.
Dr. Kupper was appointed interim president of Chadron State in June following the resignation of Dr. Ron Patterson, who accepted the presidency at Murray State University. In just four months, Kupper has demonstrated decisive leadership, strategic vision, and the ability to turn challenge into momentum—convincing the Board that a full presidential search would be unnecessary.
“From the moment Dr. Kupper stepped into the role, she has brought clarity, momentum, and a deep commitment to Chadron State’s success,” said Board Vice Chair Marjean Terrell. “The Board has heard nothing but strong support from the campus and community, and her actions in these first months speak louder than any résumé. With her knowledge, vision, and proven results, she is exactly the leader we need for the future. Launching a long and costly search simply doesn’t make sense when the right person is already here.”
Since taking on the interim role, Kupper has:
- Reinvigorated institutional planning by reactivating the Strategic Planning Task Force, setting an accelerated timeline, and ensuring a comprehensive strategic plan will be submitted for Board approval in January 2026.
- Led enrollment innovation by initiating the development of an updated SEM plan, which is currently being implemented by the VP of Enrollment Management. The plan establishes measurable enrollment growth targets for traditional students, adult learners, online students, and those seeking professional development or dual credit opportunities.
- Stabilized and energized the campus community by quickly restoring confidence following Patterson’s departure and building collaborative momentum across faculty, staff, and student groups.
“Dr. Kupper has shown in her first few months at Chadron State that she approaches every goal with energy, focus, and results,” said Terrell. “She has been warmly welcomed by the campus, and her academic expertise and deep knowledge of the NSCS mission are evident in every decision she makes. As we navigate the headwinds ahead, she is the leader I want at the helm.”
Trustee Danny Renaga echoed that sentiment: “Dr. Kupper has been a spark that has reignited Chadron State College and has helped transform disappointments into positive momentum. In my opinion, she’s already earned the job.”
Chancellor Paul Turman praised Kupper’s leadership: “Dr. Kupper is truly a product of the Nebraska State Colleges, having graduated from Wayne State College and later serving as Dean at Peru State College. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to initiatives and strategies that ensure the Colleges can continue to fulfill their mission of supporting students. Her deep understanding of Nebraska's educational landscape, coupled with her strong network of partnerships, makes her uniquely positioned to lead Chadron State into its next chapter. She brings both stability and ambition, qualities that will help the College navigate challenges while advancing growth and success."
Kupper expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve: “I am deeply honored by the confidence the Board of Trustees and Chancellor Turman have placed in me to serve as President of Chadron State College. Over the past several months, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication, talent, and passion of our faculty, staff, and students. Together, we are building on our momentum to expand opportunities, strengthen student success, and advance the mission of this remarkable institution. Chadron State is defined by its people and its commitment to making a positive difference every single day. I am excited to continue leading this exceptional team as we shape a bold and successful future for the College, our students, and the communities we serve.”
